Three More State Websites

We're getting toward the end!


Ohio:  www.ohiomemory.org contains contributions from cultural heritage institutions across the state, including yearbooks, county atlases, photos of Civil War officers, newspapers and more.


Oklahoma:  www.digitalprairieok.net has Confederate pension cards and applications, as well as photos, postcards, and government documents dating back to territorial days.


Oregon:  digitalcollections.ohs.org includes photos, oral histories, letters and diaries.

Today's State Websites

Let's take a look at the "N" states--the longest list.


Nebraska:  historyharvest.unl.edu is a University of Nebraska-Lincoln project to digitize items such as family histories and artifacts relating to immigrant families in Nebraska.


Nevada:  nvlibrarycoop.contentdm.oclc.org includes territorial census records, state land patents and records of prisoners and orphans. Additionally, there are newspapers, oral histories and yearbooks.


New Hampshire:  www.nh.searchroots.com has maps, photographs and local histories.


New Jersey:  www.njdigitalhighway.org has citizenship papers, immigration records, local histories and photographs.


New Mexico:  econtent.unm.edu provides manuscripts, photographs, oral histories and maps.


New York:  nyheritage.org has a collection of photographs, letters, diaries, city directories, maps and books.


North Carolina:  digital.ncdcr.gov includes digitized Confederate pension applications, naturalization records, and newspapers back to 1751. Also part of the collection: Bible records, marriage and death notices.


North Dakota:  www.digitalhorizonsonline.org will give you town and county histories, photos of homesteaders and oral histories conducted with Germans from Russia.

Let's take a look at all the "M" states.


Maine:  www.digitalmaine.com collected genealogy research, church records, maps, etc. from various libraries, historical societies and museums across the state.


Maryland:  www.digitalmaryland.org has a collection of African American funeral programs, Civil War records, diaries, oral history videos, etc.


Massachusetts:  www.digitalcommonwealth.org has contributions from libraries, museums and archives of photographs, maps, postcards, manuscripts and books.


Michigan:  www.michiganology.org allows you to search and view more than 10 million records, including death records older than 75 years.


Minnesota:  www.mndigital.org has photos, letters, diaries and other items from facilities across the state.


Mississippi:  www.msdiglib.org collected scrapbooks, letters, photographs, books, and family histories.


Missouri: www.sos.mo.gov/mdh  has more than 9 million items, including death, military and naturalization records.

 

Montana:  mhs.mt.gov/research/collections has newspapers back to 1873, photographs and a link to the Montana Memory Project.

Let's take a look at the "I" states.


Idaho:  history.idaho.gov/searchable-indexes will provide indexes to naturalization records, Civil War veterans, pension records, an inmate catalog and the biographical index.


Illinois:  www.idaillinois.org lets you search oral histories, manuscripts, letters, photographs and newspapers.


Indiana: www.in.gov/library/genealogy.htm sends you from "online resources" to several choices including Indiana State Library Resources, Indiana Legacy, Indiana Memory, and Indiana State Library Digital Collections.


Iowa:  digital.lib.uiowa.edu is a collection of diaries and letters from the Civil War and both World Wars, county atlases, yearbooks and government posters.

Delaware: archives.delaware.gov provides Civil War records, city histories, historical maps, etc. from the digital archives under the search tab and indexes to Bible records, manuscript records, etc. from the collections gateway under the search tab.


District of Columbia:  digdc.dclibrary.org has a digital collection from the DC Public Library that includes maps, photos, oral histories, plat books and historical newspapers.


Florida: www.floridamemory.com contains collections from the State Library and Archives, including Confederate pension applications, WWI service cards and Spanish land grants.


Georgia: www.georgiaarchives.org lets you search Colonial wills, Bible records, Confederate pension applications and more.

California:  www.calisphere.org contains digitized photos, documents, letters, etc. collected by the University of California libraries and other institutions. The site also has oral history interviews with survivors of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.


Colorado:  digital.denverlibrary.org has indexes to marriage, cemetery, mortuary, naturalization, obituary, draft and pioneer records.


Connecticut: ctdigitalarchive.org is a collection of materials from libraries, historical societies and museums including genealogies, diaries and family Bibles.

The Nov/Dec Family Tree Magazine's feature article lists the best websites available for each state. We will take the next few days to share some of these websites.


Alabama: www.alabamamosaic.org provides digitized records from archives and libraries.


Alaska: archives.alaska.gov/genealogy/genealogy.html contains indexes for naturalizations, probate records and vital records.


Arkansas: digitalheritage.arkansas.gov lets you click on "Indexes, searches and catalogs" to find a name or topic in Confederate veteran's records, land records and other sources.

Sources for Irish Family History
