It is a listing mainly of periodical articles and books but also includes some manuscript family histories deposited in libraries. The references have doubled since the first edition. The new edition contains some 6,500 references dealing with around 2,500 families. The references cited are mainly accounts of particular family lines and vary from fond and emotional accounts of families and their ancestral homes to dispassionate, well-researched and fully documented family studies and pedigrees.
