Conference Keeper

 

ConferenceKeeper has been around since 2012 as a single go-to website for finding information about genealogy and family history conferences. It is particularly useful at present for tracking virtual conferences and workshops. The listings indicate whether each event is free, not free, or some of each!

Online Genealogical Index

Does your research take you to England, Wales or the Isle of Man? The Online Genealogical Index site provides lists of websites to try for various years in those three locations. Use the drop down menu to choose the location. After choosing England, I selected Suffolk County and could then narrow it to Lowestoft, where my English ancestors originated.

FamilySearch and Family Tree Maker

We recently watched a session on RootsTech 2021 about "the road ahead" for Family Tree Maker. This genealogy software is now available for both Windows and Mac. A new feature allows you to download a tree from FamilySearch Family Tree by simply using your name or the ID number of someone else in your tree. You can choose how many generations of both ancestors and descendants to include. Another option allows you to add ancestors' descendants so collateral relatives are incorporated.

USCIS published a call for your comments in the Federal Register, and the deadline to submit is May 19th 2021. WE NEED YOU to make your voice heard about the Genealogy Program, AND to urge USCIS to transfer their historical records to the National Archives (NARA).

This is a rare opportunity to voice concerns about the USCIS Genealogy Program, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Program, or about public access to information and records generally.
