Success Story
Jerry Linderman has been searching for information on his 3rd great grandmother, Josephine Woster, for many years and finally had a breakthrough this summer. It turned out that her name in Germany was Jacobina Wurster.
Jerry says, "I did a general search of the name Woster and found a naturalization record for a Jacob Woster. It was signed by the applicant in two different places using the name Wurster. When I looked up that name in the Wurtemberg emigration list I found my third great grandmother with that name and also her whole family that had applied to come to the US at the same time in 1846. Jacob turned out to be the half brother of Jacobina/Josephine, my third great grandmother."
Genealogy lesson #1: Be open to variations in names.

Legacy Webinar
Several club members met in the San Tan room yesterday to view Legacy's latest webinar live. The presentation was 60 minutes followed by a 30-minute question/answer session. It was called "Researching Your Canadian Ancestors, an overview." Three main topics were covered very thoroughly: census records, church records and land records. The presenter mentioned many websites where various records could be accessed, and provided many examples.

Tuesday's Workshop
Sixteen people attended last Tuesday's workshop; six of them had visited the Family History Library last spring or this fall--proving our contention that Salt Lake City is on the way to and from anywhere!
Maureen Edwards spent time at the Allen County Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana and recommends it highly. She also reported that there is a new building at the military records facility in St. Louis, but the records are just as difficult to access.
Several reported advancing research over the summer; others were planning to order microfilm this year.

Legacy Webinar scheduled
We have scheduled a special webinar for the Friday November 9 in the Santan Room starting at 12:00 Sharp.
The webinar is entitled RESEARCHING YOUR CANADIAN ANCESTORS, AN OVERVIEW being presented by Legacy.
Don't miss this webinar by Claire Brisson-Banks, an accredited genealogist (AG).
The key to good research in any country is understanding its history, records and resources. This class will review a timetable and discuss the differences in searching Canadian records versus US records. It will cover a mini-history of the country's growth, census, church, land, and probate records along with online and community resources.
The webinar will be done by 1:30 as we have to vacate the room by 2:00.
